Rhetoric Placement

Cutoff Scores, Placement Messages, and Credit Policies for 2014-2015

Placement into the Rhetoric courses is based on the student’s highest ACT English or SAT Critical Reading score. Cutoff scores, placement recommendations, and proficiency credit policies are derived in collaboration with the Division of Rhetoric in the Department of English and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering Illinois in Summer 2014, Fall 2014, or Spring 2015.

Transfer students: If you have earned at least one hour of college-level composition credit in an academic writing course but not enough credit to fulfill the Composition I General Education requirement, you will be enrolling in RHET 233. Please discuss scheduling options with your advisor.

Questions? Contact "Placement & Proficiency" staff by emailing pnp@illinois.edu or by calling 217-244-4437 during business hours.
