French Placement: Cutoff Scores and Placement Messages for 2017-2018

Placement into the French courses is based on a combination of the number of years the student studied French in high school and the student's score on the French Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement messages are derived in collaboration with the French Department and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering Illinois in Summer 2017, Fall 2017, or Spring 2018.

The online French Placement Exam does not award proficiency credit. Only students who do well on the placement test may attempt the proficiency exam. You will need to have earned a score of at least 70 (about 80%) to qualify.
