The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Instructional Innovation to join The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL).  This Assistant Director will play an essential role in advancing the mission of CITL by supporting innovative teaching and learning initiatives. The position will be responsible for managing CITL innovation spaces and fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and experimentation. The Assistant Director will work closely with faculty, students, instructional designers, and media/technology specialists to research, develop, and deploy new and scalable strategies that enhance student engagement, improve learning outcomes, and promote a culture of inclusion and diversity.

The mission of The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL) is to provide leadership for reflective and responsive teaching, educational innovation, and professional development. The Assistant Director for Instructional Innovation plays a significant role in promoting innovation and discovery of new instructional methods and technologies in collaboration with the faculty and potential corporate partners.

Duties & Responsibilities

Management and Operations of the Innovation Spaces
• Oversee the management and operation of CITL innovation spaces and collaboration areas.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines for the usage, safety, and accessibility of these spaces.
• Ensure that these spaces are equipped with cutting-edge technologies, tools, and resources to support innovation in teaching and learning.
• Manage students, interns, and staff to ensure the smooth operation of the Innovations Spaces.

Collaboration and Support for Instructional Innovation
• Collaborate with faculty and academic units to identify instructional challenges, opportunities, and goals related to instructional innovation.
• Provide guidance and support in utilizing innovation spaces to explore and implement effective instructional strategies.
• Foster a vibrant and inclusive community of faculty, students, and staff around innovation spaces.
• Consult with stakeholders to develop and implement innovative instructional solutions, including the integration of educational technologies and digital resources.
• Provide individual consultations and support for faculty in the selection and adoption of appropriate technologies and digital resources.

Project Coordination and External Relations
• Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and encourage cross-pollination of ideas among faculty, students, and staff.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful project implementation and alignment with institutional goals.
• Manage events and workshops to promote collaboration, showcase innovative projects, and celebrate achievements.
• Develop relationships with external stakeholders and promote the institution's commitment to instructional innovation.
• Work with the CITL data analytics team to assess the impact and effectiveness of CITL Innovation Spaces on teaching and learning.

Keeping Up with Trends and Best Practices
• Stay current with emerging trends, research, and best practices in technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
• Adopt a culture of experimentation, reflection, and iterative improvement in instructional design and delivery.

Position Qualifications

Required-
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in emerging technologies, makerspace activities, instructional design, educational technology, or a related field preferably in a higher education setting.
• Experience in managing innovation spaces or similar collaborative environments.
• Supervisory experience including teaching, managing, or mentoring others.

Preferred-
• Master’s degree

• Strong knowledge of emerging educational technologies for teaching and learning.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple initiatives.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office 365, Generative AI, and multimedia authoring tools.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Minimum salary for this position is $75,000.00. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
