New Help Desk at the Tech Hub opens in the armory

Aug 27, 2021, 13:10 PM

Do you need help navigating your course space on Canvas? Maybe you’re having Wi-Fi or password problems.

If you’re on campus, you can stop by the new Help Desk at the Tech Hub, located in Armory 151A. No appointment is necessary.

This year, the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL) and Technology Services are partnering to provide students, faculty, and staff hands-on help with computer and technology-related issues, answer their questions, and troubleshoot any problems.

“We’ve seen it all, so we’re willing to help out any way we can,” said Blayne Beeson, a Tech Services consultant, who staffs the service.

Services include training and support on Canvas and Compass for students and instructors, A/V classroom support, course development support, and support for any service provided by Tech Services.

“We can help if you’re having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi or if you have a question about Zoom,” Beeson continued. “We do password assistance. We also help with the Safer Illinois application – if they can’t get logged on or their status isn’t appearing correctly.  Even if we don’t cover a service, we will point you in the right direction.”

Since the service started on Monday, August 23, Beeson said a handful of students have stopped in for assistance. Officials are working on getting the word out about the new walk-in service and hope it grows by word of mouth.

If you can’t stop by in person, faculty and staff needing help on Canvas can drop in for Canvas Support Open Office Hours on Zoom every Wednesday from 1-2 pm and Thursday from 11 am-12 pm. They can also take part in a virtual training.

Students can learn more about Canvas and Compass by visiting CITL's LMS webpage.

If students, faculty, or staff have questions about Moodle, they can contact the ATLAS Help Desk at atlas-tlt@illinois.edu.

Students, faculty and staff can get online tech support at Tech Service’s Help Desk.
