Importance in the World

In the past few decades, a well-defined problem-solving method from the world of design has made significant inroads in higher education. For those using it on our campus, adopting the methods of Design Thinking has revealed distinct advantages for learners. The method’s reliance on a multi-disciplinary team approach develops valuable teamwork skills, and its formal problem-solving model encourages understanding and empathy for those most impacted by any problem being explored.

Importance on Campus

Across our campus, we are seeing more interest in the development of this multi-disciplinary, problem-based approach and are currently in the process of building a home for design thinking set to open in December 2018. The Design Center is going to be a 40,000 square-foot iconic building created specifically with design thinking, creativity, and making in mind. 

The Design Center will be located on the south end of campus between Huff Hall and the School of Art + Design.

We are well-positioned to introduce design thinking to new faculty, provide a forum and feedback for faculty integrating it into their curricula, and spread awareness of its adoption across our campus.
