Placement into the French courses is based on the student's score on the French Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement messages are derived in collaboration with the French Department and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2018, Fall 2018, or Spring 2019.

The online French Placement Test does not award academic credit. Students who do well on the placement test (at least 70% correct) may attempt the French Proficiency Exam, which is offered at the beginning of each fall and spring semester.

75 - 88		Placed into FR 205 or FR 207; consult with your advisor about other 200-level courses.1

¹If you do not already have college-level credit for FR 104 or higher, you may take the French Proficiency Exam in August 2018 or January 2019 prior to enrolling in a French course.
