I-STEM
The I-STEM Education Initiative (I-STEM) helps the Illinois campus community strengthen STEM teaching, learning, and engagement. Led by the Office of the Provost under the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL), I-STEM brings together colleges, research institutes, and partners across campus to advance excellence and inclusion in STEM education.
Since 2007, I-STEM has evaluated more than one hundred major STEM programs—from NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates to community nanotechnology initiatives—helping campus units design, assess, and improve educational impact.
Our three strategic goals drive everything we do:
Fostering STEM Citizenship
Public engagement that connects science with community—because science belongs to everyone.
Promote Higher-Education STEM Education Reform
Evidence-informed improvements to undergraduate and graduate teaching and learning.
STEM Education Evidence & Advocacy
Rigorous evaluation and public dissemination to drive meaningful change.
