Generative Artificial Intelligence

The goal of these resources is to provide the teaching and learning community with everything they need to explore and understand Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). With the ever-changing nature of GenAI and how we use it in education, expect this document to be updated on a regular basis with input from other campus stakeholders.

What is Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and how does it work?

GenAI refers to a field of artificial intelligence focused on creating computer systems capable of producing realistic, and complex content that mimic human creativity. By learning patterns and structures from existing data, GenAI enables applications in diverse areas such as art, design, communication, and more – encompassing media like texts, images, videos, audio, games, music, and 3D models. This versatility already positions GenAI and its transformative potential as an invaluable asset across many industries.

Recent new advances, exemplified by the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT), are opening new possibilities for GenAI to help solve complex problems and are starting to affect the way we work, communicate, and innovate. The impact of GenAI on our daily lives is already undisputable and is on a trajectory of exponential growth, compelling us to examine and harness its potential to influence our creativity and productive capacities.

Check out the following two short videos as they explain GenAI and some of its possible applications.
