French Placement

Cutoff Scores and Placement Messages for 2011-2012

Cutoff scores and placement messages are derived in collaboration with the French Department and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering Illinois in Summer 2011, Fall 2011, or Spring 2012.

The online French Placement Exam does not award proficiency credit.

56 - 61 0 - 2 Placed in French 102
3 - 4 Placed in French 103
62 - 69 0 - 4 Placed in French 103 or 133 (for students who want to major or minor)
70 - 77 0 - 4 Placed in French 104 or 134 (for students who want to major or minor)1
78 - 88 0 - 4 Placed in French 205 or 207; consult with advisor about other 200-level courses.1

If you do not already have college-level credit, you may take the French Proficiency Exam in August 2011 or January 2012 prior to enrolling in a French course.
