German Placement

Cutoff Scores and Placement Messages for 2017-2018

Placement into the German courses is based on the student's score on the German Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement recommendations are derived in collaboration with the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering Illinois in Summer 2017, Fall 2017, or Spring 2018.

The online German Placement Exam does not award proficiency credit.

38 - 57 Placed into GER 102
58 - 62 Placed into GER 103
63 - 76 Placed into GER 1041
77 - 83 Placed into GER 2111
84 - 100 Placed into GER 2121
1 If you do not already have college-level credit for GER 104 or higher, you may take the German Proficiency Exam in August 2017 or January 2018 prior to enrolling in a German course.
