Placement into the Spanish courses is based on the student's score on the Spanish Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement recommendations are derived in collaboration with the Spanish Department and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2019, Fall 2019, or Spring 2020.

The online Spanish Placement Test does not award academic credit. Students who do well on the placement test (placing into fourth level or higher) are invited to attempt the Spanish Proficiency Exam, which is offered at the beginning of each fall and spring semester

16 - 34	Placed into SPAN 130
35 - 45	Placed into SPAN 141 or 1421
46 - 57	Placed into any of the following:  SPAN 200, 202, 204, 208, 228, or 2321

¹ If you do not already have college-level credit for SPAN 141, SPAN 142, or a higher-level Spanish course, you may take the Spanish Proficiency Exam in August 2019 or January 2020 prior to enrolling in a Spanish course.
