Placement into the Spanish courses is based on the student's score on the Spanish Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement recommendations are derived in collaboration with the Spanish Department and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2020, Fall 2020, or Spring 2021.
The online Spanish Placement Test does not award academic credit. Students who do well on the placement test (placing into fourth level or higher) are invited to attempt the Spanish Proficiency Exam, which is offered at the beginning of each fall and spring semester

1 If you do not already have college-level credit for SPAN 141, SPAN 142, or a higher-level Spanish course, you may take the Spanish Proficiency Exam in August 2020 or January 2021 prior to enrolling in a Spanish course.
