Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in AI and Accessible Course Design

Department: Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL)

Institution: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Duration: 1 year (12 months), renewable for an additional year

The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a pioneering institution in the field of education, dedicated to advancing innovative instructional technology and learning strategies. CITL is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment that empowers both students and educators.

This opportunity comes at a time when innovation in the area of Artificial Intelligence and online Teaching and Learning is growing and recent Title II ADA legislation is focusing sharply on the accessibility of online, hybrid, and MOOC courses. CITL is currently seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow in AI and Accessible Course Design. This fellowship involves collaborative partnerships between CITL, CITL’s Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Team, CITL Faculty Fellow AI research team, and various academic units within the University of Illinois.

Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum Deveopment

  • Actively engage in teaching responsibilities within the selected academic unit, focusing on AI and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with CITL's UDL Team, CITL's Faculty Fellow AI research team, and other faculty members to develop and implement innovative strategies for leveraging AI to enhance the accessibility of online course and web content. 
  • Contribute to the creation and enhancement of curricular resources that meet accessibility and quality online course quality standards.

Research

  • In collaboration with CITL's UDL Team, CITL's Faculty Fellow AI research team, and the partnering academic unit, conduct research related to the use of Artificial Intelligence for enhancing the accessibility of online course and web content.
  • Publish and present research findings in relevant academic conferences and journals.

Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with faculty members, fellow Postdoctoral Fellows, CITL Faculty Fellows, and CITL staff to foster a culture of excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities provided by CITL and CITL's UDL Team.
  • Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay informed about best practices in AI, accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and online course quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  •  A Ph.D. or terminal degree (e.g., MFA, JD, MD, EdD) in Education, Instructional Design, Information Sciences, Instructional Technology, or related field.
  •  Strong commitment to teaching excellence and student success, with a focus on accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and online course quality standards
  •  Demonstrated experience or interest in research related to AI, accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and quality standards for online course design.
  •  Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  •  Ability to work effectively in a diverse academic environment 

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Demonstrated experience in AI and two or more of the following areas: AI, accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and quality standards for online course design (e.g., QM, OSCQR, Chico, QOCI, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience working with Python and Java programming languages and/or the MySQL relational database
  • Demonstrated experience working with HTML and CSS
