Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences StART

"Welcome to the University of Illinois online Master of Science program in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES). The environment, at all scales from the local to the global, is changing, and the resulting challenges are numerous and profound. NRES is an interdisciplinary department that tackles these problems through sound science with the goals of guiding management practices and informing public dialogue.

Because this mission is crucial, we have designed the online M.S. program to challenge students with rigorous courses, academic requirements, and capstone experiences, while also leading them to achieve more than they thought possible by providing highly qualified professors, easy access to program advisers, outstanding library resources, and extensive, innovative advising resources. The curriculum requires students to take courses in four core areas, to ensure adequate breadth of understanding, and allows significant flexibility for students to design the program of study that best suits their interests and needs. Students also choose a capstone project through which they will gain extensive experience in an area of their choice through an individual research project, internship, or group research project. We are committed to providing the best environmental science education possible, and we welcome you to explore the program web site. Please feel free to contact me (phodson@illinois.edu) or Renee Gracon (gracon1@illinois.edu), our Online Program Advising Specialist, for further information about the program."
