The Instructor & Course Evaluation System (ICES) is the official end-of-course student ratings system used to evaluate instructor and course effectiveness for both faculty and teaching assistants. ICES ratings are often utilized for course improvement, promotion & tenure review, teaching award decisions, and student registration assistance (via our Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students list). ICES ratings are only one indicator of teaching effectiveness and should be used in conjunction with other measures of teaching quality such as student learning outcomes, peer observations, document analysis, and self-review.
