Steps to Success

Be successful in your online learning environment at the University of Illinois by viewing the following information prior to the start date of your online class:

• Technology Requirements: Ensure your personal computer meets the necessary technology requirements for online learning.

• Order Textbooks 

• Prior to the first day of  class: You will receive information from your instructor by email on how to get started in your online class. This message is sent to your University of Illinois email account.  Contact your instructor if you do not receive this email before the start date of the class.

• Determine your Learning Management System (LMS): Your  online learning environment at the University of Illinois environment consists of a learning management system (LMS). LMS provides online access to your course syllabus, schedule, assignments, discussion board, and grades. This information is sent to your University of Illinois email account prior to the first day of class. The University of Illinois currently supports Illinois Compass 2G and Moodle, depending upon your specific situation or online course. In addition to your LMS, your online learning environment may also include one or more tools for blogging, wiki authoring, or web conferencing.

• Contact your instructor by email immediately if you need assistance with viewing your online course, experience technical difficulties or require help with course related questions.
