CITL Summer Workshop Series: June 12, 14, 19, and 21

A few spots remain for the CITL Summer Workshop series, titled "What You Need to Know: The Essentials of Effective Teaching."  The series as a whole is designed to get new instructors a head start on designing their first course, but any instructor (or future instructor) can attend any part of the series to brush up on their skills or learn something new.  The workshops will be held on June 12, 14, 19, and 21, from 11am to noon, and 12:30pm to 1:30pm each day.  See this flyer for more details.

Microteaching facilitators needed for the August Grad Academy

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered already! The program is shaping up to be fantastic. We can still use several people to facilitate Microteaching recording sessions, which involves overseeing a group of 7 TAs as they each present an 8-minute mock lesson. Responsibilites include calming the nerves of the new TAs, keeping things moving on time, providing a small amount of written feedback on the lessons, and running a short group discussion at the end of the session. We provide training so you know what to do. It's usually fun, and you get to learn a little about a lot of things. You may volunteer using the link below, and I include the original call for presenters for context or if you are interested in any of the other volunteer opportunities available:

Faculty, academic professionals, and experienced TAs are invited to participate as presenters and facilitators in the Graduate Academy for College Teaching (August 20-21, 2018), CITL's program for new TAs with classroom teaching responsibilities, and the Symposium on Grading & Office Hours (August 21, 2018), our program for those TAs with non-classroom responsibilities. There are opportunities to create your own concurrent session, facilitate a lesson from a pre-existing lesson plan, or facilitate microteaching sessions. Facilitating microteaching is a particularly fun and easy way to volunteer even if you are somewhat new to teaching yourself.  Follow this link to volunteer.
