What Inclusive Instructors Do

A NOTE FROM FACILITATOR DAVID FAVRE: Spaces in our new CITL Faculty Book Club are currently full.

If you are interested in reading our selection, What Inclusive Instructors Do: Principles and Practices for Excellence in College Teaching (Addy et al., 2021), the eBook is free in the University Library.

You may register to be part of the book club in the Spring 2023 semester when we will read a different selection.

One book, eight friends, and infinite possibilities!

The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning is excited to launch the CITL Faculty Book Club.

The first gathering will be held Nov. 1, 2022, from 11:30 am to 1 pm, in the vibrant teaching and learning space in 156 Armory Building. Subsequent gatherings will be held at that time on Nov. 15, 2022; Dec. 6, 2022; Jan. 10, 2023; and Jan. 24, 2023.

All UIUC faculty members and post-docs with teaching responsibilities are welcome to join.

“It’s a great way to connect with colleagues from different disciplines who are curious about the same topics that interest you,” said David Favre, a Teaching & Learning Specialist at CITL and the book club’s facilitator.

The first selection will be What Inclusive Instructors Do: Principles and Practices for Excellence in College Teaching (Addy et al., 2021). Book club members can get a free version of the book from the University Library.

Favre chose this book because inclusive teaching is a major component of UIUC’s definition and assessment of teaching excellence and an essential topic for all instructors.

He added that joining the book club has many benefits, including:

  • Creating new collegial friendships
  • Learning from each other’s experiences and points of view
  • Earning an Accredible badge that can be displayed on LinkedIn
  • Receiving a free CITL notebook to write your reflections and questions
  • Suggesting ideas for the next book

We can’t wait to see you there!
