Rhetoric Placement

Cutoff Scores, Placement Messages, and Credit Policies for 2009-2010

Placement into Rhetoric courses is based on the student’s highest ACT English or SAT Critical Reading score. Cutoff scores, placement messages, and proficiency credit policies are derived in collaboration with the Division of Rhetoric in the Department of English and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering UIUC in Summer 2009, Fall 2009, or Spring 2010.

Placement Message

1 - 19 Fall RHET 101 and Spring RHET 102; Take RHET 100 both semesters.
20

Fall RHET 103 and Spring RHET 104.

21 - 31 RHET 105, or Fall CMN 111 and Spring CMN 1121
32 - 36

Earned 4 hours of credit for RHET 105; Fulfilled Composition I requirement.

This two-semester Speech Communications course, “Oral and Written Communication,” is for students who wish to receive a public speaking credit in addition to fulfilling their Composition I requirement.
