We Wish You a Good Summer

Whether your summer plans call for research, teaching, reading, writing, relaxation, fun, or some combination thereof, we wish you the very best and are grateful for having worked with many great instructors this semester. CITL is still here over the summer, so don't hesitate to schedule a consultation or attend a workshop if you plan to use the summer to learn something new about teaching and learning.

CITL Summer Workshop Series: June 4, 6, 11, and 13

CITL will again offer an 8-part workshop series this summer. The series as a whole is designed to get new instructors a head start on designing their first course, but any instructor (or future instructor) can attend any part of the series to brush up on their skills or learn something new. The workshops will be held on June 4, 6, 11, and 13, from 11am to noon, and 12:30pm to 1:30pm each day.See the summer workshop series flyer for more details.

CITL is looking for new Graduate Affiliates

The Instructional Development team at CITL is looking for four new Graduate Affiliates, including two Affiliates to specialize in iFLEX active learning spaces. Grad Affiliates are experienced TAs at Illinois who have a keen interest in the theory and practice of good teaching in higher education. These are hourly positions, intended for those who have primary funding from another source, yet the capability to work a few hours extra per week.

If you apply, please be sure to indicate wheter you are interested in just one of the positions, or if you wish to be considered for both.

Congratulations to This Year's Certificate Recipients

CITL awarded 117 certificates at this year's Celebration of College Teaching on May 1. We appreciate the work and dedication shown by this year's recipients. If you want to earn a certificate next year,start now by learning about the requirements on our website.

Campus Instructional Facility Cafe Survey

What do you like to eat and drink? Faculty members and students are encouraged to fill out a survey regarding their dining preferences for a new cafe to be constructed as part of the new Campus Instructional Facility (CIF) at the corner of Wright Street and Springfield Avenue. The cafe will be located at the east main entrance of the facility, facing Grainger Library. This is a rare opportunity to let your voice be heard about something that will directly affect you!Complete the short survey here.

Call for Presenters: August 2019 Grad Academy

Faculty, academic professionals, and experienced TAs are invited to participate as presenters and facilitators at the Graduate Academy for College Teaching (August 19-22, 2019), CITL's program for new TAs with classroom teaching responsibilities, and the Symposium on Grading & Office Hours (August 20, 2019), our program for those TAs with non-classroom responsibilities. There are opportunities to create your own concurrent session, facilitate a lesson from a pre-existing lesson plan, or facilitate microteaching sessions. Facilitating microteaching is a particularly fun and easy way to volunteer even if you are somewhat new to teaching yourself.Follow this link to see the full call for presenters. Strategies for Better Course Evaluations and Analyzing Student Feedback

Here are four steps to better course evaluations: make course expectations explicit, establish clear criteria for grading, get formative feedback early, and analyze student feedback.

End of Semester Evaluations

Most universities use final course evaluations to solicit feedback from students.
