ChatGPT Advanced Chat Mode

Did you know you can use the mobile version of ChatGPT to have a voice discussion and even save it as a video file to share with others? Here’s a brief example chat about supporting student use of AI.

  1. Download and open the ChatGPT app on your device.  

  1. If you don’t already have one, create a ChatGPT account. 

  1. Click on the audio chat icon at the bottom of the screen. 

  1. If prompted, choose a voice for your chat. 

  1. When you see the glowing blue orb, you’ll know you’re in advanced chat mode

  1. Start the conversation and speak naturally to pause and redirect the discussion at any time.  

  1. Before you end the voice chat, click on the share icon near the top of the screen to export the video file. 

  1. Once the file has exported, you can save the video to your phone or easily share with others.

Run Simulated Class Discussions 

Engage in back-and-forth voice dialogue to simulate classroom discussions or debate practice: 

  • Scenario: Debate economic policy, ethical dilemmas, or business cases. 

  • Benefit: Prepare for in-class facilitation and model diverse viewpoints. 

 

Practice Presenting Research or Talks 

Use voice interactions to rehearse a research talk or upcoming panel discussion: 

  • Scenario: Give a brief version of your research and get feedback or questions. 

  • Benefit: Improve clarity, pacing, and anticipate audience questions. 

 

Mock Student Advising Sessions 

Practice advising scenarios to support students more effectively. 

  • Scenario: “I’m falling behind in three classes and don’t know what to do.” 

  • Benefit: Practice responding with empathy, resources, and solutions. 

 

Talk Through Complex Concepts 

Use voice to explain a concept and get suggestions on clearer analogies. 

  • Scenario: “How can I better explain blockchain to undergrads?” 

  • Benefit: Improve clarity and accessibility of your instruction. 

 

Practice Difficult Faculty Conversations 

Role-play tense or sensitive conversations with colleagues or staff. 

  • Scenario: A team member isn't contributing to a grant project. 

  • Benefit: Gain confidence handling tricky dynamics.
