Online Proctoring

IMPORTANT! Before you can create exams with ProctorU Live, you must complete the ProctorU Instructor Guidelines and Acknowledgment

ProctorU Live is an online proctoring service that allows students to take exams online while ensuring the integrity of the exam for the institution. The service uses live proctors who monitor exam takers remotely. If you are teaching an undergraduate course and want to use ProctorU Live as a proctoring solution, the financial cost associated with using ProctorU Live has to be taken care of by the unit offering the course. Please reference the Course Fee Policy page for more information about software and services costs for students.

Proctors monitor exam takers by:

  1. Authenticating the test taker’s identity to ensure that the person being monitored is the correct student.
  2. Observing the test taker via a webcam. The student is connected to a real person who guides him/her through the process.
  3. Watching the test taker's screen in real time so that they can see everything the student is doing at both the location and on screen.

It is recommended that ProctorU only be used for "high stakes" assessments, such as midterm and final exams. Because there is a student fee for each assessment done through ProctorU, it is not recommended to use ProctorU for assessments with less weight. This will create less of a burden on students financially, and will ensure that assessments with a larger weight are monitored more closely for academic integrity.
