Quality Online Course Design with Quality Matters (QM)

At Illinois, we’re committed to enhancing the quality of online education, and as part of that mission, we’re proud institutional members of Quality Matters (QM), a globally recognized organization dedicated to improving online education and student learning experiences.

QM began in 2003 as part of a FIPSE grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Since then, they’ve developed a research-backed course design rubric and an empowering review process that support instructors in designing high-impact online courses.

How can you take advantage of QM at Illinois?

All U. of I. faculty and staff have full access to these QM resources. Here are some ways you can get started with QM:

• Watch the Quality Matters Overview Video.
• Visit QM@Illinois, a self-enrolling Canvas site designed to introduce you to U. of I.'s institutional QM membership benefits and how to take advantage of the QM rubric, resources, and professional development opportunities.
• Contact your QM Coordinators at CITL-QM@illinois.edu for a consultation.
• Attend one of CITL’s Quick Start Workshops on “Improving Course Quality with the QM Rubric and Resources.”
