Placement into the Spanish courses is based on the student's score on the Spanish Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement recommendations are derived in collaboration with the Spanish Department and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2018, Fall 2018, or Spring 2019.
The online Spanish Placement Test does not award academic credit. Students who do well on the placement test (at least two-thirds correct) may attempt the Spanish Proficiency Exam, which is offered at the beginning of each fall and spring semester

1 If you do not already have college-level credit for SPAN 141, SPAN 142, or a higher-level Spanish course, you may take the Spanish Proficiency Exam in August 2018 or January 2019 prior to enrolling in a Spanish course.
