Rhetoric Placement

Cutoff Scores, Placement Messages, and Credit Policies for 2018-2019

Placement into the Rhetoric courses is based on the student’s highest ACT English or SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing ("EBRW") score. Cutoff scores, placement recommendations, and proficiency credit policies are derived in collaboration with the Division of Rhetoric in the Department of English and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2018, Fall 2018, or Spring 2019.

ATTENTION Transfer Students: If you have earned at least one hour of college-level composition credit in an academic writing course but not enough credit to fulfill the General Education 'Composition I' requirement, you will be enrolling in RHET 233. Please discuss scheduling options with your advisor.
