Placement into the French courses is based on the student's score on the French Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement messages are derived in collaboration with the French Department and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2019, Fall 2019, or Spring 2020.
The online French Placement Test does not award academic credit. Students who do well on the placement test (placing into fourth level or higher) are invited to attempt the French Proficiency Exam, which is offered at the beginning of each fall and spring semester.
